New Toy! First Video!!!

Zach got a new toy yesterday! After spending Memorial Day weekend at Uncle Kevin & Aunt Jo's house in Phoenix, and seeing how much he loved his cousin Connor's activity mat, his kind and generous uncle and aunt bought him one for himself. I put together a rudimentary video from our point & shoot. Quality is terrible (I think I can get it a little better, but not much), lighting is so-so, and Zachary is his usual amazing, adorable self! It may be kinda long for some of your tastes, but you don't have to watch the whole thing. Be sure to look for him grabbing and shaking the toys - he's never done that before - and there's a really good "ah goo!" towards the end - ok, there's a good one right at the beginning, too :)

Bigger & Stronger

As of yesterday, May 21, 2007, Zachary weighed in at 14 lbs.-14 oz. and is 25 in. tall. That's 97th percentile for both weight and height!

He's also getting stronger. See the photo below for evidence. Yes, he's getting an "assist" from the boppy (horseshoe shaped pillow that we use for feeding him), but still, a week ago he couldn't hold his head up this high with any kind of help. And he can hold it there for a good 20-30 seconds. Our little boy is growing up so fast!

pacee-fier? i don' nee' no steekin' pacee-fier!

Zach has found his hands, sort of. He still doesn't always get them in his mouth, but in the last few days he's started to hold them together and at least get them pretty close to his mouth. He still keeps his hands clenched in a fist, so no thumb sucking. He can, however, almost get his entire fist in his mouth, and sometimes he shoots for both at the same time! If he ever succeeds I hope to have the camera ready to document that historic moment.

Reading with his friends...

Zach can be seen here reading one of his favorite books, "Fuzzy Bee and Friends". It's a hand-me-down from his cousin Ian, who gave it two slobbery thumbs up. The plot is riveting, the characters fascinating and true-to-life. A timeless classic.

Zach, Frog and Moose are in the midst of a lively conversation, comparing and contrasting the philosophies espoused by shy Beetle Bug and pompous Butterfly.

Mr. Smiley, Mr. Cutie, Mr. Adorable

Let me just preface the following few shots by saying that Amy loves this outfit. Me, not so much. It's just a little too cutesy. Babies are not dolls. That being said, he is super adorable, and it was me who set him up with his stuffed animals. But in my defense, I did it not for the cute factor, but so he could have some "friends" to "play" with. Believe it or not, Daddy can get boring after a while...

2 weeks vs. 2 months

we took this shot on Zach's 2 month birthday. We took a similar pic on March 25 (his 2 week birthday), and wanted to take this one to see if we could tell the difference ...

... and what a difference! Here are the two photos side by side, for a quick comparison:

our little boy is growing up (and out!)

heaven is...

falling asleep in his mother's arms. ahhhh....

hot in the city

it hit 90 degrees last week, and we had to break out the hot weather clothes to keep Zach cool. so of course, we had to get a shot of his first time in a tank top.

word is bond, homey ... word is bond

reading with daddy

This one may be over his head a little bit, but I think he likes the drawings of the little ducklings, and daddy likes reading it because it's set in Boston :)

the part where the book names the eight little ducklings (jack, kack, lack, mack, nack, ouack, pack, quack) and daddy adds a ninth duckling, Zach (of course!) amuses the boy Zach very much

this is the part where Mrs. Mallard and the little ducklings are crossing the busy highway. Zach is very concerned. He can't wait to find out what happens!

reading with mommy (and froggy) before nap time

zachary has started to figure out that his hand makes the perfect pacifier substitute:

a lot of the baby books talk about looking for sleep cues, so you as the parent know when it's nap time for your little one. i think this one is pretty clear:

more photos from Nanna & Grandpa Bob's visit

he likes taking a bath, but he doesn't seem to like daddy taking his picture while he's taking a bath.

that is one satisfied looking baby

Nanna & Grandpa Bob meet Zachary

My mom, Liz (now "Nanna") and dad, Bob, visited SF last week to meet Zachary live and in person for the first time. Like everyone else who's met Zach, they fell quickly, deeply, madly in love with him. I guess I should say more deeply and more madly, since they already were head over heels, but you get the point :)

Here are some shots from their first day here:

... and here are a couple of photos after Nanna helped give Zachary a bath:

no clever title necessary ... he's just that darn cute
