future entomolygist or bugaphobe?

with toys like these, Zachary is either going to love 'em or hate 'em

(it's difficult to see in this picture, but that's a catepillar rattle, beetle squeeze toy and Fuzzy Bee bug book - what is it about insects?)

Proud Mommy's first post!

Well, I'm finally getting around to adding my two cents to this blog. Here are some fav photos from the last few days...

Today was our first visit with the new pediatrician. Zach was given a clean bill of health, weighing in at a whopping 12 pounds, 11 ounces! He has gained about a pound a week. No wonder he's been eating and sleeping so much.

The last few days Zachary is spending a bit more time awake and playing. It's been really fun to interact with him more, hearing him coo and watching him kick those legs and bat his arms around.

Still working out those neck muscles! He has filled out those forehead wrinkles a little bit though. Compare to the 4/10 post that has a picture of him in this same position. He definitely looks more like a baby now (and less like a newborn).

Elizabeth Kingwill from the Jackson Hole adoption agency visits us in SF. Thank you so much Elizabeth for facilitating our connection with Zachary!

How 'bout that smile?!?

Such a cutie pie! I was so excited that I caught this on film (well digital "film").

Baby Clothes = Funny. Who knew?

Is it me, or have baby clothes gotten funnier since I was a baby? That is to say, when I was a munchkin, I don't remember any of my clothes having funny sayings on them. Not that I would remember anything from way back then. And even if I did I (A) wouldn't have been able to read it, and (B) never have gotten the humor, which is obviously aimed at adults. Personal favorites include some onsies that say: "Party in my crib. 2 AM"; "Don't wake me ... I'll wake you"; "Tax deduction" and every grandchild & grandmother's favorite:

Obviously these two know something that mommy and daddy don't. And it's probably better for everyone if it stays that way.

Catching Up

I know, I know, I'm falling behind! So I've decided to let the pictures speak thousands and thousands of words and just post a ton of photos without a lot of descriptions ... ha! it's not that easy to shut me up ... the following are photos from the last few days, while Grammy and PapaDay have been visiting. My only comment: Zachary has obviously been watching his Daddy read on the couch.

Zachary wanted you all to know ...

... he is ready for Opening Day! (No pun intended. Um, what pun?, you may ask. Good question. I don't really know, but I'm sure there's a good pun in there somewhere, I'm just too darn tired to figure it out.)

These photos are from Monday, which was the Red Sox's not so glorious first game of the 2007 season, in which they were summarily crushed by the Kansas City Royals. But they took the next two to win the series, and their $100 million investment, Japanese superstar Daisuke Matsuzaka, kicked serious butt. Next they're off to Texas, and then, as the counter above indicates, they head to Fenway Pahk for the Home Opener on Tuesday.

But this is a Zachary blog, not a Red Sox blog, so blah blah blah on to the photos:

Still here!

Hi everyone, sorry for the long pause (pausity-pause, as one of Zach's books says) between posts. It's amazing how time can fly by when you're living in 3 hour segments. That's about how long Zach takes between meals. Anyway, I've got a lot of photos to post, so I'll just get to it.

The following are from the past weekend, when we had some friends drop by to help welcome Zach to our family.

(from L to R: Jamie, Shaila, Miki, Zach (duh!), Sasha, Proud Daddy)

Celeste and a sleepy Zachary (note the snazzy red socks)

Carl showing off his baby soothing skills

Zachary looking not all that impressed with Carl's baby soothing skills. (In fairness to Carl, I think that's the face Zach makes when he farts. Or worse.)

Good buddy and dad of two little guys himself, Dan Nice shows Proud Daddy the inverted reverse football hold. This hold was definitely not in the manual, which is why I'm so lucky to have friends like Dan.

It takes a lot of energy being loved and adored by so many. Finally, after everyone goes home, Zachary gets to relax in the arms of his Proud Mommy.
